Aloe Vera isn't really seen as a 'supplement', therefore there is no set dose. However that doesn't mean that too much can't have negative side effects. For example, Aloe Vera has a potential toxicity which may cause side effects such as abdominal pain or diarrhoea when consumed in higher doses. It also has been found to have a strong laxative effect! If you do choose to eat the gel straight from the plant, then you must prepare the leaves correctly, by draining out the latex first. The latex is the thin layer of yellow-y liquid found in-between the skin and the gel. This liquid is what can cause the laxative effect and can also add bitterness to the flavour of the gel. You can find instructions on how to do this in the Beginner's Guide to Making Hair Care at Home from the 14 Day Challenge! If you choose to eat Aloe Vera products, just be sure to check that they are safe for consumption, as some products are purely for skincare or topical purposes. Therefore, look for products like juices which are more likely going to be made for the purpose of being consumed. For general well being, you can have 30-60 ml a day!
