Unless the ingredients are written exactly the same way, they are dissimilar! Betaine is used as an additive in conditioners and is classified as a humectant and protein protectant whilst coco-betaine (cocamidopropyl betaine) is a synthetic surfactant commonly used for cleansing the hair.
