Yes! When choosing a pre-poo, sealant or DIY product ingredient, you can switch out the oils to suit your hair profile and preferences.
When it comes to Olive Oil vs Avocado Oil, both of these oils are better suited to be used on the 'hair strands', which is certainly something to be aware of. Of course, you can still use these oils on your scalp when they are diluted with other ingredients- for example within a DIY shampoo recipe. However, if you have a sensitive scalp and you may want to avoid using these oils on your scalp and find more scalp friendly alternatives.
When using these oils by themselves, they can be super useful as pre-poo, sealants and conditioner ingredients as these steps in your hair care routine usually are only put on your strands. If you were to use them straight on your scalp, just as they are, then you could find that they cause more irritation.
However you choose to use the oils based on your hair profile, just be sure to clean your scalp thoroughly to avoid build-up and clogged pores!
