In many ways the answer is yes! However, there are a few things to take into account as well.
- Firstly, you'll want to take into account what is causing your hair loss. Once you have found the root cause, you are going to be much better prepared to solve the issue and reduce your hair fall. For example, if your root cause turns out to be the fact you are not eating enough protein, you can then use this information to make changes to your diet t solve this issue. However, if you find your hair loss is cause by a condition such as Androgenetic Alopecia, it is going to be much more difficult to reduce hair fall and hair loss as effectively. Therefore, finding the root cause is going to help you determine how you are going to be able to reduce your hair fall and by how much!
- Secondly, it is important to remember that it can take some time to see these improvements. You cannot expect to spend a week eating more protein and to suddenly see a huge reduction in hair fall. It does take time for your body to heal. Usually, if your root cause is an internal issue (diet, stress, hormones), it can take between 3-4 months to see an improvement in your hair, after a consistent lifestyle improvement has been made, however this is just a guideline. External issues can have a more immediate result one the change has been made. For example, if you were using a shampoo that was the root cause of the hair fall, removing it from your routine can allow you to see an immediate reduction in your hair fall.
- Thirdly, the longer you've been suffering from hair loss, the longer it will take to reduce it. Your body gets so used to the processes which cause your hair loss so it's not as receptive to your lifestyle changes compared to if you've only been losing hair for a couple of months. Another way to explain it; our bodies are super adaptable, so it will adapt to your lifestyle (stressed, illness, etc) over years and when you shock it by incorporating better practices, you body takes time to realise that it doesn't need to shed so much anymore (you shed hair when your body deems other systems in your body as more important, for example, managing the inflammation from PCOS). Therefore, do take this into consideration if you find your hair fall hasn't reduced much 3 months after incorporating new practices. It is likely your body has been suffering for longer and needs more time to heal!
