These two scalp conditions are mutually exclusive, therefore it is unlikely you will have both scalp conditions at the same time. It is possible to show symptoms of both a dry an oily scalp, however it is important to consider whether these symptoms are exacerbated by different external practices. For example, if you usually have an oily scalp, but find that after using a particular shampoo you have some dry flakes, it doesn't necessarily mean you suddenly have a dry scalp too. It is likely that the shampoo contains something that is causing this symptom to present. Also, sometimes oily scalp types can experience some flaking if the scalp is not exfoliated correctly. This can then be confused with having a dry scalp as well. Using a scalp massager when you wash your hair can really help prevent this from happening. It is important to diagnose your scalp type correctly as each scalp treatment must be treated correctly in order for the symptoms to be healed and for you to work towards a healthy scalp!
