If this is the case for you, the best course of action is avoid brushing your hair too often and to start detangling your hair with a detangling gel instead.
A detangling gel can be something like Aloe Vera Gel or Okra Gel. You can either make your Aloe Vera Gel by sourcing the gel straight from the plant, or you can buy shop-bought Aloe Vera Gel instead. If you choose to buy shop-bought Aloe Vera Gel instead, be sure to make sure there are no blacklist ingredients in the ingredients list.
Okra Gel has to be made using the pods. There are actually quite a few different tutorials and recipes online that you can find to help learn how to make this. So if this is the option for you, be sure to do a little bit of research.
You can use your detangling gel after you have applied pre-poo and before you wash your hair. Effectively you work the gel into your hair and use its slippery nature to remove all of the knots from your strands with your fingers. Then, you will want to wash your hair as normal. This process should help you reduce how often you need to brush your hair. Ideally you should aim to only use your hair brush to help style your hair rather than to detangle it!
Additionally, you will want to incorporate some tangle prevention practices into your routine. For example, using silk pillowcases and silk scrunchies to sleep in at night, wearing protective hairstyles when sleeping, out in windy weather or doing exercise. All of these things can help prevent tangles forming in your hair.
