Generally speaking, shampooing is really only necessary to clean your scalp and as you rinse, the shampoo makes its way down the hair shafts providing a subtle, gentle cleanse of the ends. Because the ends of hair shafts tend to be much drier than the roots, this delicate cleansing is usually more than enough. However, depending on your choice of pre-shampoo, you may find you need to apply some shampoo directly to the shafts in order to effectively remove the pre-shampoo, though only a small amount should suffice. This is especially true in cases of heavier hair masks or times when you may have applied too much pre-shampoo product.
