In cases of low-porosity hair, choose moisture masks over protein masks, as your strand structure already contains enough protein. Although, because low-porosity types tend to have difficulty absorbing moisture it is best to use these masks with heat to help open up the cuticles. As an example, you can apply a moisture mask while in the shower and cover your head with a shower cap. Steam and heat from your shower will gently lift your cuticles enough to allow the moisture mask to penetrate the hair shafts.
