How do you correctly wash your hair?

There are many things to consider when washing your hair:
- Firstly, be sure to only apply as much pre-poo as you need. It is tempting to use too much pre-poo which can be really hard to wash out, which is why this step is important. How much you need depends on your hair density, thickness and length! Leave the pre-poo in for about 10-15 minutes and then you should be ready to wash your hair!
- You'll want to make sure the water is hot enough to clean your hair strands of all product residue, oils, dirt and debris, but not too hot that it will damage you scalp and hair. A temperature of around 37.7°C/ 100°F is a good general guideline!
- Before you apply shampoo, you'll want to get your hair completely saturated with water. If you don't and different sections of your hair are still dry, it can make it really hard to properly spread shampoo through your hair and lather it properly. Facing away from the shower can really help ensure your hair is getting completely wet!
- When you apply shampoo, try to only use as much as you need. If you use too much, it can be super hard to wash out. To help with this step you can dilute your shampoo (1 part water, 1 part shampoo) and put it in a nozzle topped bottle. This will help thin the product out allowing you to spread it more easily. You don't have to dilute DIY products though since usually those are already much thinner!
- A scalp massager can be a super useful tool that can help exfoliate and cleanse the scalp correctly, whilst also boosting blood flow to the scalp as well!
- Now rinsing out shampoo is really important. It is so easy to skimp on this step and end up with shampoo residue left in your hair, weighing your hair down and causing it to look heavy and lank. Therefore, if you are concerned that you haven't managed to rinse out all the shampoo during rinsing, be sure to continue rinsing for an extra couple of minutes just to be sure!
- When it comes to conditioner, you want to squeeze as much water out of your hair as you can. Once you have done this, then apply the conditioner and leave it in as long as you can within your shower routine!
- Be sure to rinse your conditioner out thoroughly too as you don't want it to be left in your hair, weighing it down either!
- Some people like to finish their hair washing routine with a cold rinse to help close the cuticle of the hair after it has been exposed to the hot water. Though, this is an optional step!
And you're done! You can get out of the shower, apply your sealant and get on with your drying routine!
