Humectants are often used in haircare formulations as they contain moisturising and hydrating benefits. For these reasons, you may utilise them in various steps throughout your routine. For example, they work wonderfully as pre-shampoos, detanglers and sealants and are added into many shampoos, conditioners and hair masks. An important thing to consider when using humectants is the relative humidity in your area. Because humectants work via osmosis, relative humidity that is too high or too low can actually cause detriment to your scalp and strands. As such, the ideal range for humectants is generally between 30-60% relative humidity.
