While we generally recommend eating a sleep-inducing diet and living according to your sleep chronotype first, some people may feel they need to supplement with melatonin. Short-term studies show that it is very safe to take and because natural production of this hormone does decrease with age, supplementation can be beneficial. If you choose to supplement with it, keep it aligned with your natural circadian rhythm (otherwise it has the potential to disrupt your natural sleep cycle making it harder to sleep!). As with all supplements, do speak with your doctor before implementing melatonin into your routine!
