Sulfates are a class of organic compounds that are formally esters derived from alcohols and sulfuric acid. Many sulfate esters are used in detergents, and commonly used in liquid detergents, from shampoo to body wash to dish soap. The 4 main sulfates found in shampoos are sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium stearate and disodium laureth sulfosuccinate. Sulfates are used to break the surface tension of water, which creates a lathering effect to remove oil and dirt from your hair.  There are different types of sulfates High Strength Sulfates are: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Myreth Sulfate, TEA Lauryl Sulfate  Mild Sulfates are: Ethyl PEG-15 Cocamine Sulfate, Sodium Coco-Sulfate   Strong Sulfate-Free Sulfactants are: C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate or Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate. (You can read more about them in the Guide to Silicon and Sulfate.)These sulfates can be used to reset your scalp. In other words, you can look for these ingredients in your re-set shampoo. Furthermore, these ingredients should be near the top of your ingredient list. Reason being, as the list proceeds further down, the quantity of the ingredients used becomes less. We recommend going for a completely blacklisted free ingredient shampoo, but if it's not possible in your location, you can try the ones which have them at the very end of the ingredient list until you find a completely blacklisted free ingredient product
