Leaving water in the hair for a long time can be damaging because the water has a different pH than the hair, which can chemically damage it. Additionally, water can cause the hair to swell and weaken its structure. While slightly dampening the hair can provide benefits, it's important to find a balance and avoid pulling and twisting the hair while wet. To reform curls in the morning, it's recommended to spray them with water and optionally some flaxseed gel, then allow them to air dry for about 20 minutes. This can refresh the curls while causing less damage in the long run. The Wet2Dry baseline of 1 hour is suggested as a balance between moisture benefits and avoiding damage caused by prolonged water exposure.
