Balancing an oily scalp is all about... The balance between 'cleanliness' and hydration. It's a bit counterintuitive but what combats best scalp oiliness is moisture. If your scalp is very oily, you should be careful to do your reset wash regularly as recommended to avoid buildup. Then, proceed with your regular washes once your hair has become oily, but with a gentle shampoo like the one from the Challenge. Your hair will feel slightly less squeaky clean at the beginning than with a strong shampoo.. but over time it will avoid stressing out your skin with harsh chemicals so it will produce less oil in reaction to the irritation. We we also recommend moisture mask on your scalp before shampoo to help your skin be as hydrated as possible. Applying aloe vera gel on your scalp for 30min before your shampoo is a good example of that. If you buy the gel already made, make sure to find a product that doesn't contain alcohol or fragrance, which would not help you ;-) You can also use the scalp toning method to give your scalp a boost of moisture in-between washes. Check our lesson 'How often should I wash my hair' for more details. It's likely that your scalp will not immediately stop produce oiliness and there will be a transition phase with the mild shampoo but over time you should really start seeing your scalp get oily less and less fast.
