I had no idea that my scalp and length pH needed different levels. I'm thinking about making my own hair mask (with yogurt, banana, and honey). Should I aspire for a pH for my scalp for my lengths, or something in between?

For homemade recipes, strand pH is lower than scalp pH. So for a product touching the scalp, you should aim for 4.5 to 5.5 like for the homemade shampoo, and for a mask only for the strands you can go lower ideally from 3.2 to 3.5.
If the DIY shampoo's pH is too high, you can balance it down with some lemon.
For store-bought shampoo, you can use Citric acid to adjust the pH.
We have a whole lesson about pH in Hairqare Lab because it's a confusing topic that requires some more explanations.
